Simple Belt Grinder 1x42
Переглядів 13 тис.6 років тому
This is an overview of my old 1x42 grinder. I wanted to document it before putting it in storage. Best grinder ever, not even close, but good enough at the time I used it. The adjustment system is made from shelf standards, the tire on the contact wheels is made from an old automotive serpentine belt. The rest is plywood and all-thread.

Propane Burner Build
Переглядів 1,8 млн7 років тому
Building a simple-ish propane burner for the shop. I use this style of burner for both forge welding and for heat treating. I do not have plans I build them more or less from eye. The dimensions are not critical, I have built a bunch of similar burners and they all work. I run the pressure high as I can, I do not have a gauge on it.

Hi my name is Ben i have a new Boker and somehow one of the rings on my pin in the middle of my handle fell off. How much would you charge to fix it for me? I don’t know if you can make look the same as the other ones or not. I’m new to straight razors.

Hope all is well for ya, and that you’re still doin the stuff you like. Your blades were always lovely. If you do ever decide to make a video again do be sure it’s for the sake of enjoying the process and making something you’re pleased with. I’m hoping to get back into blade smithing some day down the line when I can get the space for it, and when it comes time to make a razor I know where to look for some reference material.

To be extra safe, I with take off the blade, get a marker, trace it on some shiny plastic, cut it out, then put it back

I'm going to attempt this on an old antique hunting knife I found without it's scales. Going to re-scale it in cow bone. The existing pin holes are slightly larger than 1/16", so I hope it works. Tappy tap tap.

Hey friend really miss your videos. You single handedly got me interested in forging and making razors. It seems you're not going to put out any more videos. I was wondering what the chances we're you would sell your most inspired fan (me) your Japanese nakayama stone? If not, I understand. Kind of a big thing to ask for I know. But I would be a great steward of it. Please let me know If this is even a remote possibility. Thank you sir

Hello Charlie, if the spine of the razor is flat you don’t really need to know where you need to grind more. You should just grind until you reach an apex, the razor should shave without any edge on it. By putting an edge at 10 thousands ultimately you keep the edge thicker than it needs to be. I used your methods for a long time and you have taught me so much, i have watched your whole channel more than anyone alive i think and i thought i could give something back. Thanks for everything !

But I believe the ones I need are made out of hardened steel. Reason I need these is because they cannot be bought without paying European shipping cost ! Any ideas!?! I can find the right size ID and the right size OD but the thickness seems to be the problem. Can I buy thick i ones and sand them down to preferred thickness?

A while back I quit using the assemble expensive deposable razors, bought a safety razor handle, I still have disposable blades, the blades cost about 6 cents. I don't do and upstroke it is too close. I also discovered doing so causes the hair to grow straight out instead of down, so when you grow a beard it causes that poofy short beard. I have never use a straight razor, any suggestions. I am jeweler I had a barber friend ask me to make them a straight razor any advise you can offer me? I will not be forging it 1. I don't have a forge anvil etc. I will be creating with files and belt sander not designed for making knives but it has the curve for the hollow.

Kinda reminds me of a Japanese Kamisori razor...sure it looks like a tiny little axe but it's a single edged razor that doesn't have a pivot to it...though those kinds apparently did exist according to old pictures...they just don't look quite like the kind we're used to today.

Love that little anvil my man!! Perfect for straight razor work. I have a question: when you are drawing out a blade width-wise, do you use the bladed end of the hammer rather than the blunt end? I know you’re using a ballpeen, but when using a standard blacksmith hammer, one end is bladed, the other is normal. I apologize for my lack of correct blacksmith vernacular 😊
